LAND
The Lokobe Reserve is the last remaining large forest on Nosy Be. Classified as a strict nature reserve, it is protected. It is home to species endemic to Madagascar: the Macaco lemur, Duméril’s boa, the Furcifer pardalis chameleon, geckos and dozens of rare bird species. A visit that explains why Madagascar is one of the world’s conservation priorities.

Lokobe Reserve: what you need to know
Lemur and reptile spotting
The trail offers opportunities to spot the ruffed lemur, as well as nocturnal species and camouflaged reptiles. You’ll also find the world’s smallest chameleon, the Brookesia, along with various types of geckos and non-venomous snakes.
Dumeril’s boa
Lokobe Reserve is home to Dumeril’s boa (Acrantophis dumerili), one of Madagascar’s largest snakes. Harmless to humans, it hunts small mammals and reptiles at night. Your guide knows how to spot it in the dense vegetation — an impressive but safe encounter.

Guided forest tours
Visitors must be accompanied by a certified local guide to identify the camouflaged wildlife. These experts know the trails and ensure visitors’ safety on the steep terrain, whilst ensuring compliance with the national park’s conservation rules.

Are we guaranteed to see lemurs?
Yes. Black ruffed lemurs are always present in the reserve. Our guide knows their habitats. Sighting rate: close to 100%.
Can we combine Lokobe with the island tour?
